Learn More About Dickerson Park Zoo

Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield, Missouri, is home to over 500 animals of 160 different species. Dickerson Park Zoo is not your standard zoo. Their mission is to connect people with animals through discovery and hands-on experiences that inspire conservation action.

This goal is apparent in their education classes and camps for children. The zoo’s educational program consists of up-close animal encounters and hands-on activities, along with crafts, stories, and games. These classes aim to promote lifelong learning about the animals we inhabit the earth with and promote better animal conservation and care.

Another way that Dickerson Park Zoo strives to care for their animals is with the onsite animal hospital. The state-of-the-art hospital includes a laboratory, quarantine buildings, a radiology suite, surgery suite, and more, making it well equipped to care for all animal species living in the zoo. They also have a wildlife rehabilitation program that predominantly treats sick raptors, enabling them to survive independently.

Dickerson Park Zoo offers volunteer opportunities for adults and youths to promote more profound connections between humans and animals. There are various volunteer roles available, including becoming an ambassador. This role allows you to interact with guests and help out at events during the busy summer months.

Another highlight of Dickerson Park Zoo is the Outback Corral petting area. This enclosed area allows you to feed an array of domestic and exotic animals in a fully protected contact setting.

Dickerson Park Zoo is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. Adult tickets cost $15, and child tickets (aged 3-12) are $10. Kids under three can enter the park free of charge. Bringing outside food into the zoo is prohibited, but there is a cafe on the park’s grounds. The restaurant sells meals, snacks, ice cream, and soft drinks.
