Learn More About Mizumoto Japanese Stroll Garden

The Mizumoto Japanese Stroll Garden is located within the grounds of the Nathanael Greene Memorial Park in Springfield, MO. The 7.5-acre plot was created in 1985 and is the oldest part of the Springfield Botanical Gardens. This peaceful stroll garden calls you to slow down, breathe and connect to nature and is the perfect spot to get in touch with your inner self.

The stroll garden’s serene atmosphere comes from features such as an open-air pavilion, meditation sand garden, stepping stones, and zig-zag bridge. The zig-zag bridge is designed to slow your walking speed down to a meditative state, and the stepping stones call you to look down and watch where you place your feet. This layout helps you focus on the present moment and contemplate instead of being stuck in your thoughts.

Within the Japanese garden are waterfalls and the koi lake, which splits into three smaller ponds. Sitting on the lake’s shore is the teahouse. This cute but straightforward building was built for ceremonial purposes, and its design reflects harmony, purity, and tranquility.

The moon bridge is another attraction. The moon is a significant symbol in Japanese culture, and the curved moon-shaped bridge represents this. The Japanese garden is jointly maintained by the Friends of the Garden, the Japanese Gardening Group, and the park staff.

The garden can be booked for wedding photos and even features a wedding deck. You can also rent this part of the park for other purposes. Moreover, you can arrange guided tours of this unique area through the botanical garden information desk.

Admission to the Japanese stroll garden is $4 for adults and $3 for children. Kids under two can enter for free, along with Friends of the Garden, Springfield Sister Cities Association, and American Horticulture Society members.
