Learn More About Pythian Castle

In Springfield Missouri, there is a 40,000 square foot Carthage limestone castle named, Pythian Castle. The castle is not only beautiful but full of history and ghost stories. The Pythian Castle was finished in 1913 by the Knight of Pythias. The Knights of Pythias is an international fraternal order established in 1864 in Washington, D.C.They built the castle as security for their members and they used the castle to home seniors and children of members that had died.

In 1942, during W.W.2, the U.S. military took the castle under an "Order of Immediate Possession" and kept German and Italian prisoners of war jailed at the castle. In 1993, the military auctioned the castle and it has been privately owned ever since.

The castle has been remodeled and is now used as an entertainment venue. The venue offers historic tours at 11 am Monday -Saturday or 2 pm Monday through Sunday. The tour lasts about an hour with a minimum of 4 guests per tour. Please call the venue for pricing and payment options.

Pythian Castle also offers ghost tours. If you are 8 and older and enjoy a good ghost story, the castle offers tours on Tuesdays and Fridays at 8 pm. There are more days and times during peak season available. Photos are allowed during the tour so be prepared for a ghostly encounter.
